About Diapos

What is this website about?

This website is, as you’ve probably guessed, about photography. But really, it’s just an excuse to get me moving. I spend most of my day sitting, and this site motivates me to get up, go outside, and walk. I could have started this paragraph with something like "capturing the beauty of the everyday"—which sounds nicer than "I do this because I need to move." But to be honest, I just need to move for my health. And looking for photos gets me out there. Picasso said, “When inspiration comes, may it find me working.” For me, it should find me walking 😅

Why diapos.net?

When I started in photography, I shot on film (digital cameras hadn’t arrived yet). What I liked most, without a doubt, were slides ("diapos" in Spanish). I preferred them over color negatives or even black and white. I loved getting lost in the details, the contrast, and the colors.

Now I take photos in both digital and analog, yet I don't shoot slides anymore. It doesn't matter. The name "diapos" has stayed with me forever; it reminds me of those early days. Besides... it was available! —finding a short name for a website that makes some sense is quite an odyssey.

Who is behind this?

Well, there’s no professional photographer behind this, just an amateur from Spain who loves tinkering with photographic gear, especially old manual lenses. I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a collector, but not of fancy premium stuff—most of my gear is cheap or in bad shape, almost junk... but I like to give things a second life. I enjoy adapting vintage lenses to digital cameras and actually using them, not just keeping them as decorative pieces. Diapos.net is just an excuse to take me and my little crystals out for a walk.

Hi!

Wait, aren't you on social media?

Yes and no... I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with it. Sometimes I get motivated and share photos, but I always end up feeling overwhelmed and take a break, which can last for years. That said, you can find more pictures on my Instagram, on this Flickr, and also on an older one. Recently, I joined Lomography too. There's also an ongoing project, bokeh.es, but that's a story for another time...
