About Diapos

What is this website about?

This website is, as you have probably guessed, a website about photography. But in reality, this website is an excuse for me to get moving. I spend most of my day sitting, and this website is the motivation for me to get out of the chair, go outside, and take a walk. I could have written a more bombastic introduction for this page with phrases like "capturing the beauty of the everyday", "snapshots of the ephemeral" or any other similar hackneyed phrase, but the real reason is that I need to walk, for my (mental and physical) health. And it is only by looking for photos that I move. "When inspiration comes, may it find me working", said Picasso. For me, inspiration should come walking, if possible.

Why diapos.net?

When I started taking photos, digital cameras had not yet arrived (although it wouldn't be long) and I preferred to take slides (note: in Spanish "slides" is "diapositivas", being "diapos" the colloquial abbreviation) rather than negatives: I loved to take a magnifying glass and get lost in the details, in their contrast, in their color. I found them alive. On the other hand, I found watching a slide projection more exciting than looking at printed photos. It was like going to the cinema and watching a movie. Turn off the lights and enjoy like a child. This whole paragraph, while real, is another excuse: I love short domains, diapos.net is not too long and it was available. The .com was taken.

Who is behind this?

Well, there is no professional photographer behind, there is simply an amateur photographer from Spain, who likes to tinker with photographic equipment but especially with old manual lenses. I recognize that I am a bit of a sick collector. I like to adapt vintage lenses in digital cameras and give them a use, not only as decorative objects. That's why diapos.net is, once again, an excuse to take me and my little crystals for a walk.

If you want to tell me something write to diapos.net@gmail.com, I don't bite :)

Hi!

Wait, aren't you on social media?

Yes and no..., I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with it. Sometimes I get motivated and share photos on social networks, but I always end up getting overwhelmed and take a break, which can last several years. But yes, you can find more pictures in my instagram and in an older flickr. There is also an ongoing project, bokeh.es , but that's another story...
